The newly appointed Saudi Oil Minister Abdul Aziz bin Salman al-Saud has admitted severe damage caused by the Yemeni drones attack on Aramco oil facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais provinces, in the east of the kingdom, on Saturday.
The energy minister, son of King Salman, confirmed that the attacks on Abqaiq and Khurais plants resulted in a temporary halt in the oil production, saying “the drop in oil production due to the attacks will be offset from stocks.”
The Saudi minister announced that “the explosions, according to preliminary estimates, led to the discontinuation of a quantity of crude oil supplies estimated at 5.7 million barrels, or about 50% of the production of the company.”
He said in a statement broadcast by the Saudi Press Agency: “The attacks on the two plants of Abqaiq and Khurais will lead to reduction of the supply of ethane gas and natural gas liquids by up to about 50%.”
Bin Salman noted that the company “is currently working to recover the quantities it lost by the attacks, and will provide within the next 48 hours updated information.”
Meanwhile, the US Department of Energy said that the United States is ready to compensate Saudi oil from its strategic reserves if necessary after the attack on the facilities of Saudi Aramco
