The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson announced that Iran’s ambassador to Yemen, Hassan Irlu passed away on Tuesday morning after having contracted Covid-19.

Hassan Irlu contracted Covid-19 at his mission site in Yemen, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Due to the delays in ensuring international safe passage out of the besieged country of Yemen, he unfortunately returned to the country late and in unfavorable conditions, and despite using all the treatment measures to improve his condition, he died on Tuesday morning, spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh confirmed.

Irlu officially began his diplomatic mission to Yemen in November 2020. The Islamic Republic of Iran, along with the Syrian Arab Republic, officially recognises the National Salvation Government of Yemen as the only legitimate authority and maintains open diplomatic relations with Sana’a.
