The Federal Government of Austria has agreed to provide € 1 million in aid from the Foreign Disaster Fund to Yemen to alleviate the suffering of civilians.

Austria FM, Karin Kneisel on Saturday said in a press statement that the conflict in Yemen led to the worst global emergency.

“The conflict since March 2015 has not received the humanitarian or political attention it deserves, with more than 11 million people living in extreme distress, and nearly one million children under the age of five suffering from malnutrition,” she said.

The € 1 million will be handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which will spend it in cooperation with the Yemeni Red Crescent to provide health care, food aid and drinking water, as well as to support displaced people through cash-for-work programs.
