Some 7 million Tunisian voters will head to the polls in 27 different constituencies within Tunisia on Sunday morning, in order to choose one of the 24 presidential candidates as the new President.

Some 70,000 security personnel are involved in securing the presidential election, in addition to 32,000 military personnel announced by the Ministry of Defence.

“Of the 70,000 security personnel, 50,000 will be mobilised to secure polling stations, participate in the transfer of electoral materials, and protect and monitor all candidates during their activities and visits,” Tunisian Interior Ministry spokesman Khaled Hayuni told The German News Agency.

He added that 20,000 other security people will ensure the normal functioning of other security functions, parallel with the electoral date, including securing public facilities, public and commercial squares, the transport sector, hospitals, countering terrorism and crime.

Security will also transfer ballot boxes to 27 collection and counting centres across the country
