The Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf Abdullah met today with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer and his accompanying delegation.
The Foreign Minister welcomed the visit of the ICRC President, which is the second visit to Yemen since the beginning of the Saudi-American aggression.
The minster praised the humanitarian role of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the field of humanitarian assistance, especially in the fight against the spread of cholera, which has spread in large parts of Yemen.
During the meeting, Hisham Sharaf Abdullah said that the aggression has created suitable environment for the spread of the epidemic by targeting the infrastructures, especially the medical and health facilities, and preventing and delaying the arrival of necessary medical assistance, appreciating the International Committee of the Red Cross efforts regarding to the prisoners and the wounded and follow up the cases of torture carried out by the authorities of the aggression of the United Arab Emirates.
“ Since the beginning of the Saudi-led coalition aggression against Yemen on 26 March 2015, the aggression had and still using all types of weapons, including internationally banned , and practicing all forms of criminal acts and violates all international covenants, treaties, human values and norms, in particular the international humanitarian law,” the Minister said
He stressed that the countries of aggression and their mercenaries have not respected the organized norms of prisoners’ rights; they have arrested civilians from their homes and roads between provinces and cities and subjected to torture, which led to prisoners brutally slaughtered.
The Minister called on the international community and international human rights organizations to open independent investigations into the crimes of the invasion force of UAE authorities, which carried out this type of terrorist acts during the year 2016 and up to date for suspicious purposes.
In his part , the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that the ICRC had stepped up its budget as a result of the deteriorating humanitarian situation, which needed more humanitarian assistance, stressing the importance of urgent access to those in need in all areas.
He also reviewed the results of his visits to the southern provinces and the province of Taiz, Stressing the importance of a political solution to end the suffering of the Yemeni people from all aspects, including the use of internationally banned weapons and abuses in the file of prisoners and detainees.
