O’Brien: Flights to Sana’a Airport Must be Resumed Soon

The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Stephen O’Brien warned about escalating suffering in Yemen’s man-made catastrophe, which has threaten 17 million people in Yemen, calling for an end to abuses coalition  against civilians in Yemen and international humanitarian law by the Saudi-led coalition

“The humanitarian suffering in Yemen continues at various levels,” said O’Beran during his briefing to the UN Security Council on Yemen.

He pointed out that a quarter of the Yemeni people are deprived of a steady income and that the UN organizations need 2.3 billion dollars to meet the humanitarian needs.

“The humanitarian response plan in Yemen has received only 39 per cent of the funding required,” he said.

“We need 2.3 billion dollars to meet the humanitarian needs in Yemen,” said the UN official.

O’Beran stressed on the resumption of flights to Sana’a airport, noting that the   imposed blockade on the airport by the coalition has deprived thousands of Yemeni patients of travel to treatment abroad.

“Flights to Sana’a airport must be resumed soon,” O’Brien said, stressing the need to lift the blockade on land, air and sea access to civilians.

O’Brien also called for an end to the violations committed against civilians in Yemen as well as international humanitarian law by the Saudi-led coalition.
