Scabies Disease Outbreaks among Students in Saudi Arabia

More than 1060 people have been hit by scabies in many distant cities amid expectations of an increase in the number to thousands, according to Saudi media sources.

The number of people who were diagnosed with scabies in the province of Mecca raised to 1063, belonging to 12 nationalities, many of them in schools; the sources quoted the official authorities saying.

The cases were concentrated in Mecca, and the Health Directorate explained that 25 residential districts had been diagnosed with scabies as well as two suspected cases of disease in Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah.

The cases of scabies were spread among five Saudi cities, but that the cities are located in three different regions and separated hundreds of kilometers, Al-Watan Saudi Newspaper said.

The Human Rights Association of Mecca said that the disease first appeared in the southwest of the city, “after its outbreak in Al-Worood neighborhood, which is also known as a Kumamah “garbage” neighborhood near the dumps and animal and cattle sheds.
