Foreign Minister, Hisham Sharaf, and Deputy Foreign Minister, Hussein al-Azzi on Sunday met with the special envoy of The United Nations Secretary-General’s envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith in the capital Sana’a.
During the meeting, Sharaf expressed that the Supreme Political Council and the Government of National Salvation informed the Special Envoy, during his first visit, of their willingness to reach a peaceful political settlement in order to cease the Saudi-led war.
He affirmed that the countries of the coalition have obstructed all peace efforts through the practice of all forms of international humanitarian law and human rights conventions’ breaches, including the assassination of the President Saleh al-Sammad and the recent military escalation in the West Coast.
Minister Sharaf stated that a peaceful political solution is the choice of the Yemeni people, adding that this at the same time does not indicate surrender.
The Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the Yemeni people have been subjected to a ruthless war for four years, in which all kinds of internationally banned weapons were used, stressing that the hand of peace still extends as long as there will be a just and honorable peace based on respect between neighboring countries.
On the other hand, Special Envoy Martin Griffith stressed that there is no military solution and the political solution is the sole option that will contribute to ending the humanitarian catastrophe endured by the Yemeni people.
