“The conditions of more than half a million people in the faltering Yemeni city of Hodeidah are deteriorating, especially with the lack of food supplies and damage to water and sanitation systems, increasing the risk of cholera outbreak”, Oxfam International said on Thursday .
” The organization also said in a statement on its official website “Despite the recent intensification of fighting, more than 80,000 people have been displaced from their homes and preparations are continuing for a bloody attack .”
“The armed forces are deployed in the city of Hodeidah, trenches are being dug and barriers are being erected, the suburbs of the city are being bombed from the air, and leaflets calling for an uprising are being dropped,” the statement added .
The organization pointed to the scarcity of food in the city where basic materials such as flour, vegetable oil and cooking gas became scarce, leading to higher prices, pointing out that the price of rice bag increased by 350%, wheat by 50% and cooking oil by 40%.
Oxfam called on the United Nations Security Council not to allow Hodeidah to become a graveyard and to exert maximum diplomatic pressure on warring parties to agree to an immediate ceasefire and return to peace talks .
