The Supreme Political Council in an extraordinary meeting on Saturday approved unanimously the extension of presidency of Mahdi al-Mashat for two new terms according to the council’s internal rules.
In the meeting, chaired by Mahdi al-Mashat, the council reviewed the challenges it faced during the past period and al-Mashat’s ability in leading the country, and decided to support and help him during his new term, which starts on December 24, 2018, and ends on August 24, 2019.
The meeting dealt with the developments at the political and military developments at the national arena.
In this regard, the council welcomed the points contained in the UN Security Council resolution (2451), which underlined Stockholm agreements, foremost of which was the ceasefire in Hodeidah and the prisoner exchange agreement.
In its meeting, the council was briefed in the meeting on a draft national vision for building the modern Yemeni states.
The draft vision includes 12 axes: the national reconciliation and political solution, governance, social construction, economy, administrative development and institutional construction, security and justice, innovation, knowledge and scientific research, education, health, infrastructure and services, national security and foreign policy, environment and urban development.
The council approved the vision after amendments thereto and decided to refer it to the government to comment on it.
