Mohamed Ali al-Houthi, head of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee, has condemned US president Donald Trump’s call for the recognition of the Zionist entity’s occupation of the Golan Heights.

Al-Houthi said that Trump’s call “testifies to the arrogance of American actions in support of the Zionist entity”.

“We condemn the call by the President of the United States to recognize the “sovereignty” of the Zionist entity over the Golan, which has been issued by those who do not have the right and does not give him the right to decide the fate of others,” Mohammed Ali al-Houthi wrote on his Twitter account on Friday.

“The call is a condemnation of Trump and his administration for violating and avoiding international laws,” he said, adding that “U.S. actions supporting the entity testify to the fact that it is a barbaric act .”

Similar to when he moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which is against international resolutions, US president Donald Trump said on Friday: “It is time for America to fully recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.”

The Golan Heights are sovereign territory of Syria, and were occupied illegally by the Zionist armies during the Six-Day War in 1967, which in the Arab world is known as the Naksah (Setback). As the Zionist entity celebrated Trump’s move, its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked the US leader for what he termed “the courageous step of recognizing the [Israeli occupation of the] Golan”.

In contrast, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States said: “Any recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Syrian Golan is irrelevant and does not entail rights.”

Turkey has warned of dire consequences, with the Turkish foreign minister stating: “Attempts to legitimize Israel’s violations will lead to further violence in the region.”

At the international level, media outlets have conveyed to Russian diplomats their assertions against any decision to recognize the annexation of the Golan to Israel.

“Russia will never recognize Israel’s rule over the occupied Golan,” said Morozov, a member of the International Affairs Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation.

The European Union (EU) also stressed that “the European Union does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan.”
