Salafist leader Mehran Qubati, commander of the so-called Fourth Brigade, has said the Southern Transitional Council (STC) intends to carry out a military coup against the Saudi-backed exiled “president” Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, and that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) occupation forces are backing the coup.
This comes due to the high tension between the Southern Transitional Council and the forces loyal to Hadi in Aden.
The UAE-backed council forces have reportedly completed their arrangements to take control over the central bank and the government ministries that have recently opened its headquarters in Aden, Qubati told reporters.
He stressed that after the transitional council forces toom control of the bank and the ministries, they will be moving to control al-Ma’ashiq Palace, which is the headquarters of the Hadi government.
Qubati stated that the first military objectives of the STC is to take out the Fourth Brigade that is tasked with presidential protection and is led by Qubati himself.
A meeting was held on Saturday chaired by the Interior Minister loyal to the Saudi-led coalition forces, Ahmed al-Maysari, and included military and security leaders who discussed the future of the Saudi-led puppet government.
