The Yemeni Ministry of Health reported on Thursday that 818 citizens have died of the cholera epidemic and 219 others passed of diphtheria in Yemen since the beginning of the year 2019. Many of the deaths were children or minors.
“The highest percentage of deaths was in Ibb province with 113 cases, followed by Dhamar province with 89 deaths,” Dr. Yousef al-Hadhri, a spokesman for the ministry, told Yemen Press Agency.
Dr. al-Hadhri indicated that the number of people infected with cholera has reached 583,416 cases, of which 146,317 went under rapid check-ups.
He added that the diphtheria-infected cases amounted to 3,941 cases in all provinces, with Ibb province topping the list with 641 cases, followed by Hodeidah province with 560 cases.
The cholera and diptheria epidemic continues to ravage much of Yemen, especially since medicine and proper healthcare is extremely hard to come by in many areas due to the Saudi-imposed blockade and continuous airstrikes.
