The Yemeni army Spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e has on Sunday met with Sudanese prisoners captured on the frontlines while participating in the Saudi-led aggression against Yemen, as well as representatives from the Sudanese Yemeni community.
During the meeting, Brigadier Yahya Sare’e welcomed the Sudanese community and the Sudanese prisoners.
He noted “the depth and durability of fraternal relations that have brought together the Yemeni and Sudanese brotherly peoples since ancient times.”
“We send a message to our brothers, the Sudanese people and the new government: we say to them we are brothers. And what is the use of war on your brothers?” he said.
“For the prisoners: they are our guests and they are given all the care and attention,” he added.
Meanwhile, the deputy director of the Department of Moral Guidance for Media Affairs, Brigadier General Abdullah bin Amer, referred to the former Sudanese leadership, who committed a grave mistake against the Sudanese people through their participation in the aggression against Yemen.
“The Yemeni people rely on the Sudanese people, not on [those in] power,” he said. He stressed that the Sudanese people are going through a period of important change, and confirmed that this change will not be complete until the withdrawal of Sudanese forces from Yemen.
The head of the National Committee of Prisoners, Mr. Abdul Qadir al-Mortada, said the prisoners are guests of Yemen and they are treated as brothers.
“The previous government in Sudan wrongly recruited the religious side of the Sudanese under the pretext of preserving the holy places, and this is what the prisoners talked about. They said that they want to enter Mecca, but thank God today it became clear to them that the Saudi regime is actually striving towards normalisation with the Israeli enemy,” he said.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Sudanese community appealed to the new Sudanese government and the Sudanese people to withdraw Sudanese troops from Yemen and apologize to the Yemeni people for what happened.
They explained that they and all members of the Sudanese community live among their brothers, the Yemeni people, whom they described as “the most generous people on earth”.
They stressed that the people of Yemen and the Sudanese people are united by the bonds of brotherhood and that there is no source of hostility, neither geography nor others.
For their part, Sudanese prisoners expressed their thanks and gratitude to the Yemeni army and Popular Committees for the good treatment, care and attention they receive.
They pointed out that the people of Yemen are “good and generous people, and Yemen does not deserve to be destroyed in this way.”
They called on the Sudanese leadership and government to withdraw its forces and apologize to the people of Yemen.
“Our brothers in the [Yemeni] army and the Popular Committees treated us well from the very first moment, and told us not to be afraid,” a statement by the Sudanese prisoners read.
“At the beginning, we hated you and we were afraid of you, but today we love you after we witnessed your dealings and after the picture became clear to us. We are brothers who pray and read the Qur’an together, and we hope that the war on Yemen will end,” the prisoners added.
