The Ministry of Public Health and Population on Sunday revealed the latest statistics of deaths and infected cases of swine flu in the capital Sana’a and provinces managed by the Supreme Political Council.

“The number of people infected with swine flu (H1N1 virus) reached 6600 cases during 2019, including 1,600 cases during the past two months, while the number of deaths reached 43, among which eight cases were confirmed that they died from H1N1 virus,”  the Spokesman of Dr. Yusef al-Hadhri said.

The spokesman said that the reason for the spread of the H1N1 flu epidemic in Yemen is likely linked to a decrease in temperature during the winter season, which happens in most countries of the world and several countries in the region such as Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, where the number of people infected with swine flu is increasing.

Dr. al-Hadhri added that the economic situation linked to the blockade and aggression against Yemen has exacerbated the severity of the epidemic in the country, where tens of people died and hundreds others were infected with the disease during the past two months.

He urged mobilizing all efforts to combat the epidemic, calling on the foreign organizations working in the health field to expedite the provision of medicines and solutions and equip isolation rooms in hospitals and centers.

On Thursday, Minister of Health in the salvation government in Sana’a Dr. Taha al-Mutwakil announced the maximum state of emergency to combat the swine flu epidemic.
