Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Hisham Sharaf called on the United Nations to take a strong and frank stance towards the policy of collective punishment practiced by Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the pro-aggression government towards millions of Yemeni people, by continuing to prevent the entry of ships loaded with oil derivatives and domestic gas.

“The United Nations and the Security Council are concerned with taking a strong and frank stance against the arbitrary measures of the Saudi and Emirati aggression states, in accordance with international laws and principles that prohibit and criminalize such punitive measures against civilians,” Sharaf affirmed in letters addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President and members of the Security Council, the member states of the United Nations General Assembly and the Special Envoy for Yemen.

“The humanitarian catastrophe created by the Saudi-Emirati aggression would not have continued, had it not been for the international silence applied to the crimes and violations due to the policies of interests, arms, oil, and services contracts,” he added.

Sharaf also called on the international community, especially the five permanent members of the Security Council, to fulfill their responsibility in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations to stop these inhumane actions that increase the repercussions of the humanitarian catastrophe and the suffering of Yemenis, especially with the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the policy of collective punishment, including preventing the entry of oil derivatives and domestic gas, undermined the UN efforts to prepare for a peaceful settlement and a political agreement to end the aggression and lift the siege.
