Satellite images showed, on Monday, the start of an oil spill from the floating Safer reservoir in Ras Issa port in Hodeidah governorate in Red Sea, west of Yemen, foreshadowing an environmental disaster that may threaten the countries of the region.
Tanker Trackers posted on Twitter a photo taken of the Safer tank, which includes about 35 storage rooms, and clearly shows a recent oil spill two weeks ago in the Red Sea and the penetration of the leakage of a large amount of water in the floating Safer tank.
On September 14, oil experts warned that Safer ship, anchored at Ras Issa, began to leak, creating an oil slick that was seen 50 kilometers to the west of the Safer tanker, which faces the risk of spilling 1.1 million barrels of crude off the coast of Yemen in the west of the country.
