Hundreds of thousands of Yemenis in Sa’ada province on Thursday morning staged mass marches, marking Ashura Day and the anniversary of Imam Husain’s martyrdom.
The events included speeches and poems about Imam Husain’s revolution and his true attitude against tyrants and oppressors.
They participants highlighted the tragedy of Ashura and the tragedy due to the deviation away from Islam’s teachings. They conveyed the similarity of Imam Husain’s tragedy, when he stood alone in front of oppressors, to the crimes inflicted on him, his children and his family, and the tragedy of Yemen today, which has been standing for over six years in the face of the US-Saudi aggression.
The participants carried slogans of freedom against American policy in the region, banners of the occasion and banners calling for a boycott of American and Israeli goods. They chanted slogans including (Ashura is the line of liberation), (To Al-Quds we will reach), (From Kahboub to Asir, the people lead the march).
The statement of the march of the city of Sa’ada affirmed that Yemenis’ position in confronting the aggression stems from their belief in the justice of their cause and is an extension of the Husseini revolution, which is a revolution against tyranny.
“The blood of the oppressed Yemeni people at the hands of America and its agents is an extension of the blood of Hussein,” the statement reads, stressing that the sacrifices of Yemenis in the face of the aggressors are extensions of the sacrifices of Karbala.
Major marches will be held to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali (AS) this afternoon, in the capital Sana’a and the rest of the Yemeni provinces.
