The Director of Al-Sabeen for Maternity and Childhood Hospital in the capital, Sana’a, revealed that the hospital services are on the verge of a complete halt within days due to the siege imposed by the forces of US-Saudi aggression and their prevention of the arrival of fuel.
Dr. Magda Al-Khatib told Almasirah that Al-Sabeen Hospital receives thousands of children and women around the clock and they need to be observed in intensive care, nurseries and operations and need the provision of oxygen. She noted that the detention of fuel ships and preventing their access is a humanitarian crime and a death sentence for the health sector in Yemen.
She added that the continuation of the siege on oil ships will force the hospital to reduce its services and stop some of them, because the hospital’s diesel, to generate electricity, is not enough for more than a week.
Al-Khatib stated that stopping hospital services due to the siege means stopping 60 incubators and the death of all babies there. It means stopping more than 200 women in obstetric emergencies, as well as stopping 20 caesarean deliveries per day.
She pointed out that last year the World Health Organization stopped supporting Al-Sabeen Maternity and Childhood Hospital with fuel, which prompted the hospital to find possible alternatives.
“If there are statistics of the death of two children and a mother every hour in Yemen, this number will double a lot and a major humanitarian catastrophe will occur with unimaginable consequences due to the siege,” she said.
Al-Khatib holds the forces of aggression, the United Nations and the international community responsible for stopping services at Al-Sabeen Hospital and other hospitals.
The US-Saudi aggression continues to detain six fuel tankers carrying 144,667 tons of fuel for nearly five months.
