President of the Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashat, on Thursday said the Council’s acceptance to extend the armistice aimed to alleviate the suffering of the citizens.
“It is also to allow achieving a real progress in the reopening of roads, the sustainability of flights, the smooth arrival of ships, the actual commitment to the terms of the armistice, the non-facing of obstacles, and the cessation of military violations,” President Al-Mashat said, stressing that “all this will remain under close supervision and monitoring during the coming period.”
President Al-Mashat had received a letter from the UN envoy for Yemen and a number of messages and calls from the leaders of many friendly and brotherly countries, which sought to provide another opportunity for the United Nations and the aggression countries to compensate for the provisions of the armistice that were not adhered to during the past two months.
The UN envoy’s letter included a request to extend the armistice for two additional months, and an emphasis on finding urgent humanitarian treatments and fixing and addressing the delay that occurred in implementing the provisions of the armistice during the past two months.
President Al-Mashat welcomed all the efforts that were made, which emphasized the interest in Yemen’s overcoming of the aggression and the siege imposed on it.
