A violent explosion rocked the Balhaf facility, the most important oil production facility in Yemen.

Local sources reported that the explosion was caused by a drone that crashed near the facility, noting that the plane took off from the Al-Ruwaik area on the Marib border, which is controlled by Islah factions.

It was not yet clear whether the attack was a targeting of the facility or just a warning message to the French company operating there.

It was also not confirmed yet who was behind the attack.

The attack comes in light of rapid developments in Yemen, the latest of which was the decision to transfer the STC forces stationed in Mukalla to protect the facility, not to mention the repeated threats from Sanaa to foreign companies operating in the oil and gas fields.
