Shura Council discusses difficulties facing department of qualification, reform

A joint meeting of the Shura Council, chaired by Council Speaker Muhammad Hussein Al-Aidarous, on Saturday discussed the difficulties facing the Qualification and Reform Department.

The meeting reviewed a part of the challenges facing the department in terms of health, food, laboratories, and issues of insolvent people.

At the meeting, the Speaker of the Shura Council appreciated the efforts of the reformatory and the relevant authorities in rehabilitating and training prisoners. He urged for concerted efforts by the relevant authorities to enhance the role of the reformatory in securing the basic requirements of the inmates, resolving the issues of the insolvent, and providing the appropriate capabilities for their qualification and training.

Al-Aidarous stressed the importance of preparing an integrated study that defines the relationship of the competent authorities with how to deal with prisoners.

For her part, the chairwoman of the Council’s Rights and Freedoms Committee, Hassiba Shenif, called for establishing technical, vocational and industrial institutes in prisons and finding qualified human cadres in reformatories that contribute to the development of society after the expiration of the prison term.

In the meeting, Head of the Qualification and Reform Department, Major General Abdul Hameed Al-Moayad, reviewed part of the activity carried out by the department in qualifying inmates through unified laboratories in carpentry, blacksmithing, sewing and leather work.
