The governor of Jaw province, Faizal bin Haidar, chaired on Saturday a meeting that included the head of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums, Dr. Abbad Al-Hayyal, to discuss ways to preserve the archaeological and historical sites in the province.

The meeting touched on mechanisms for protecting archaeological sites from excavations, looting, and the encroachment of urban construction and agricultural lands into the sanctuaries of archaeological sites.

At the meeting, the governor affirmed the readiness of the leadership of the local authority and the security services to work on preserving the national wealth in the province, including holdings, antiques, and archaeological and historical sites.

In turn, the head of the General Authority for Antiquities indicated that the biggest challenge today is how to preserve heritage, faith identity, and cultural gains.

He stated that the aggression coalition and its mercenaries had targeted numerous heritage sites, archaeological and historical sites over the last eight years.

The meeting approved a number of measures related to securing archaeological sites, combating excavations and vandalism of antiquities, furnishing an office for the Antiquities Authority branch in the province, and supporting it financially.
