Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of the National Salvation Government imposed on Sunday a total ban on the import of frozen poultry from outside the country.
Abdul-Malik Al-Thawr, the minister of agriculture, explained that the decision came within the framework of the ministry’s directions to encourage and protect local production, in a way that does not affect small local producers.
He mentioned that the import of frozen poultry has caused many poultry farms to stop production.
Al-Thawr stressed the importance of importers’ commitment to the ban, which will be applied for six months, with finding an appropriate mechanism to ensure the provision of consumers’ requirements and poultry needs from local farms at reasonable prices.
