An expert in the field of antiquities, Abdullah Mohsen, revealed that rare Yemeni artifacts were offered for sale in an auction abroad
Mohsen said on his Facebook page, “In an auction to be held early next month, a yellowish hammered silver serving bowl will be displayed, with an eagle engraved on its outside, surrounded by a ring of two circles. He mentioned a “Sabaean princely family from Al-Bayda,” according to the description of Bonhams auction house in London.
The masterpiece, which has a diameter of (16 cm), was among the possessions of a private collection in the United Kingdom, probably obtained from Aden, and was sold at Christie’s auction, New York on December 10, 2004 AD for (33460) US dollars, and it was offered for sale after Eid Al-Adha in Auction 6 July 2023 AD.
The eagle has been the emblem of the state of Sheba since ancient times, and it is the same as the emblem of Yemen.
