The Taiz province’s merchants bloc announced on Saturday an escalation of actions, and requested that all merchants close all stores beginning at 8:00 PM on Sunday, in response to the poor economic situation and the high cost of living.
In a statement released Saturday, the merchants bloc confirmed that it would announce an escalation and a thorough strike if the catastrophic collapse of the local currency is not handled and further economic deterioration is not prevented.
The Taiz merchants bloc had earlier warned the “presidential council” and the puppet government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition of the repercussions of the currency collapse and the rise in prices, affirming that citizens would go out to the streets to ask for rights and the ceiling of their demands would rise.
