Abdo Ghorab, head of the Rabies Control Unit at the Republican Hospital in Sana’a, revealed that the center has recorded, since the beginning of this year 2023, 2,406 cases of dog bites, including 4 deaths.
Abdo Ghorab said in a statement that rabies is a dangerous virus that is transmitted through bites through wounds, and through saliva. This virus passes through nerve bundles until it reaches the central nervous system in the brain, causing severe infections, convulsions, paralysis, and then death.
Ghorab appealed to the authorities responsible for controlling dogs to provide dyes for examining the heads of dogs, as we have been almost seven years old and have not obtained these dyes.
Ghorab called for the need for all concerned authorities to play their role and not be complacent in combating this dangerous disease, including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and the municipality, as well as the role of the media and the work of programs to combat this disease.
