Yemeni public universities in areas under the control of coalition factions continue their strike for the fifth week in a row.

The faculty unions and employees of the universities of Lahj, Aden, Abyan, and Shabwa organized a protest in front of the United Nations building in the city of Aden, to demand their rights that were confiscated by the government loyal to the coalition during the past years.

A statement issued by the protest movement warned Moeen’s government against continuing to ignore the suffering of educational and academic staff, stressing that the comprehensive strike of universities will continue until their just demands are met.

The statement denounced what it described as a policy of exclusion, marginalization, and systematic injustice to which educational sector employees are exposed, after the government refused to launch financial settlements and raise the wages and salaries of academics to confront the complex living crises.

The protests come amid a comprehensive strike by public universities under the control of coalition factions for more than a month, amid neglect by Maeen’s government and its Presidential Council to develop solutions to its problems.
