A British antiquities collector from the period “13-18” of October is displaying an exceptional and very rare female figure of Yemeni antiquities in Britain, in continuation of the displays held for Yemeni antiquities smuggled abroad.
The Yemeni statue is displayed with a group of archaeological artifacts from the ancient world on the Catawiki online auction platform.
The independent Yemeni researcher interested in tracking and monitoring antiquities smuggled from Yemen, Abdullah Mohsen, commented about this archaeological figure by saying: “An exceptional and very rare female figure with a backing engraving!”
It is one of the antiques of the private collection of Mr. J. Bahammond, a British antiquities collector, who studied the archeology of the ancient Near East and Roman Britain at the University of Manchester.
The researcher described the figurine as “a rare and unique ancient Yemeni figure that expresses fertility, with finely drawn facial features, and the front body is separated by another stylized face around the abdomen, and rolls of abdominal fat form a large mouth… There are also two circular incisions at the top of the legs and one around the lower abdomen.”
Mohsen said that it is fortunate that the auction prohibits the participation of residents in the United States and Australia due to their customs laws, and we hope that the day will come when countries around the world prevent the entry of antiquities from Yemen except those that Yemen participates in international exhibitions for tourism promotion.
