Unidentified gunmen on Friday assassinated a senior leader of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Lahj province, southern Yemen, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition factions.
Local sources in the province confirmed that the gunmen shot and killed a member of the STC advisory board and former security director of the Mudaraba directorate, Colonel Muhammad Ali Abdullah Al-Alqami Al-Subaihi, while he was passing through the Atira area near the city of Al-Hawta, the center of the province.
The sources reported that the citizens tried to transfer Al-Alqami to a hospital in Aden, but he died of serious injury.
The gunmen fled to an unknown destination, the sources said.
Local activists on social media accused Saudi-affiliated extremist groups of being behind al-Subaihi’s assassination.
