The Minister of Foreign Affairs in Yemen’s caretaker government, Hisham Sharaf, met on Sunday with the Permanent Representative of UN Women in Sana’a, Dina Zorba, to discuss the UN Women office’s plans and activities in Yemen.

In the meeting, Sharaf welcomed the UN official and the team accompanying her to Sanaa, stressing that women in Yemeni society have a special place and share the responsibility for the advancement of the country with men.

He noted that Yemen was one of the first countries to participate in the UN General Assembly’s 2010 discussions to establish UN Women.

For her part, Zorba expressed hope that Yemeni authorities would cooperate with the UN Women Office’s efforts to make its tasks successful, with full understanding of the privacy of Yemeni society.
