The Yemeni junior national team was crowned champion of the 10th West Asian Football Federation Championship for the second time in its history, defeating its Saudi counterpart 3-2 on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw in regular time of the final match that brought them together today at Al Saada Stadium in the Omani Salalah Complex.
The national team imposed the advantage throughout the two halves of the match, and had many scoring opportunities, so that our national team star, Abdul Rahman Al-Khader, managed to score in the 12th minute, before the Saudi player Meshal Al-Dawoud was able to score the equalizer in the 77th minute.
The two teams went to penalty kicks after the two halves of the match ended with a goal each, and the Yemeni stars succeeded in winning the penalty kicks, three goals to two.
The match witnessed a large audience presence, from the Yemeni community, whose cheers shook the stadium with encouragement and support, and had a great impact in raising the morale of the team players.
Our national junior team was able to win the title in the eighth edition, which was held in Jeddah in 2021, by winning the final on penalties over the home team, the Saudi team. Fireworks were set off in Sanaa, Aden, and other cities in Yemen in celebration of this sporting achievement.
