United States and Britain sent military reinforcements to the Red Sea.

This coincides with arrangements to issue a Security Council resolution legitimizing an attack on Yemen.

British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed that his country had sent the destroyer HMS Richmond into the Red Sea.

The Telegraph newspaper quoted Shapps as saying that his country’s forces were ready to act against what he described as “the Houthis.” The battleship is the second that the United Kingdom has sent to the Red Sea within weeks.

Britain’s sending of a destroyer coincides with the US Central Command’s announcement of the deployment of four new battleships in the Red Sea, where the Eisenhower aircraft carrier and a number of warships are stationed there.

These moves come ahead of a session in the Security Council paid for by Washington, during which it aims to vote on a draft American resolution that provides cover for an upcoming attack on Yemen under the pretext of self-defense and protecting ships.
