Dozens of Yemeni citizens filed a lawsuit against the Total Energy oil company in a French court on charges of polluting lands and waters in their areas.
Media sources confirmed that approximately 50 Yemeni citizens filed a lawsuit against Total to the Nanterre Judicial Court in Paris, accusing it of contributing to the pollution of water, the environment, and agricultural lands, indicating that the plaintiffs are represented by lawyer Fyodor Rylov before the court to consider the serious and permanent damage caused by the oil pollution caused by the company, as well as Its business partner, PetroMasila, is in different areas of Hadramaut Governorate.
Citizens denounced the economic, social and environmental catastrophe that harms the lands on which they live and practice their agriculture, in addition to the contamination of groundwater with toxic substances leaking due to Total’s repeated failures.
The plaintiffs are demanding that Total Energy provide documents related to production water treatment, oil recycling, injection wells, recycling of chemical barrels, and damage to oil pipelines. The Nanterre court is scheduled to hold its first hearing against the company on February 2.
