South Africa has accused the Zionist enemy of setting a precedent in defying the decisions of the highest court in the United Nations, the International Court of Justice, noting that Gaza is witnessing a “starvation” campaign.
South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor said that the enemy defied a ruling issued by the International Court of Justice in January, ordering it to do everything in its power to prevent genocide.
Pandor added in a symposium at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace during a visit to Washington that “Israel has completely ignored the temporary measures.”
She continued “We are currently witnessing mass starvation and famine before our eyes.”
Pandor warned of the repercussions of a step that could set an example to be emulated.
She explained that the behavior of the Zionist enemy could be interpreted by countries as being able to do whatever they want without any accountability.
Pandor said that the prevailing democracy in South Africa in the post-apartheid era and through resorting to international institutions is “practicing what the West preaches to us every day.”
The minister added “The International Court of Justice was not respected. I hope that when an African country shows disrespect for it, we will not go to its leader one day and say, ‘Listen, you have crossed the limits, because because you are an African, we expect you to obey.'”
A UN-backed food security assessment concluded that Gaza faces imminent famine, with about 1.1 million people, or nearly half the population, suffering from catastrophic hunger.
