The World Bank called for “urgent” action to save lives and ensure that Gazans have access to medical supplies, food, and life-essential services.
This came in a statement issued by the World Bank Group last night regarding the situation in Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a devastating Israeli war since last October 7.
“With more than half of Gaza’s population on the brink of famine, including children and the elderly, the World Bank Group is calling for urgent action to save lives,” the statement said.
The statement also included an overview of the World Bank Group’s response to the situation in Gaza.
He noted that in December 2023, the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank Group agreed to provide $35 million to development partners active in Gaza, including UNICEF, the World Food Program and the World Health Organization.
The Zionist enemy has restricted the access of humanitarian aid to Gaza since the start of the war on it on October 7, causing a scarcity of supplies of food, water, medicine , fuel and creating a famine that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly, in light of the presence of about two million displaced people in the besieged Strip for 17 years.
