A Greek frigate left the Red Sea after three months of participating in Operation “Aspides,” which was announced by the European Union to counter Yemeni attacks on navigation linked to the Zionist entity, a Greek newspaper reported on Monday .

The  Kathimerini newspaper said that “the Greek frigate Hydra is expected to pass through the Suez Canal on Monday.”

The Psara frigate, which will replace Greece’s Hydra frigate in the Red Sea around the end of May, will be equipped with a new, even more powerful anti-drone system, according to Kathimerini newspaper.

The newspaper did not mention any details about the reason for the withdrawal of the frigate, but observers suggested that the reason was due to  “the failure of its defense systems to counter operations by the Yemeni armed forces in the Red Sea, which requires replacing it with another carrying more advanced defense systems.”

It is noteworthy that several European countries participating in Operation “Aspides” have recently withdrawn their frigates from the Red Sea. Western reports have mentioned the failure of their defense systems to detect and repel missiles and drones from Sanaa.

Since late last year, the Yemeni armed forces have been targeting ships linked to the Zionist entity in the Red and Arabian Seas, before announcing the extension of their operations to part of the Indian Ocean.

Recently, they announced the beginning of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “even in the Mediterranean,” in support of the Palestinian people who are facing genocide in Gaza.

They indicated that their operations against “Israel” would continue until the latter stops the genocide in Gaza and lifts the siege.

In response, the US and the UK launched an aggression against Yemen, after which the Yemeni armed forces announced the expansion of their operations to target American and British commercial and military ships in response to the US-British aggression.

On February 19, 2024, the European Union launched a military operation named ‘Aspides,’ led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced an operation named ‘Guardian of Prosperity,’ both aimed at countering Yemeni military operations in the Red Sea.
