Human Rights Watch announced today that Israeli forces have used white phosphorus in 17 towns in southern Lebanon since October 2023.
According to “Russia Today”, the organization confirmed: “Israel used air-explosive white phosphorus illegally 5 times over residential areas in southern Lebanon.”
It continued, “Israel’s widespread use of white phosphorus highlights the need for stronger international law on incendiary weapons.”
Earlier, the Strategic Communications Coordinator in the National Security Council at the White House expressed Washington’s concern about information related to Israel’s use of American white phosphorus munitions in Lebanon, against the backdrop of a report by the Washington Post newspaper, that Israel used these munitions during attacks on southern Lebanon in Last October.
It is worth noting that the Israeli army has been using white phosphorus munitions against many civilian targets in the Gaza Strip as well since the start of its war on October 7, and many press reports have drawn attention to this, but the American administration completely ignores this data.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Israel of using white phosphorus munitions and cluster munitions in the Gaza Strip, and Justice Minister Muhammad Al-Shalalda said that Palestine is calling on the International Criminal Court to look into the issue of Israel’s use of banned weapons in bombing the Strip.
Meanwhile, the official representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, said at a press conference in New York on October 13 that the organization “has no evidence of Israel’s use of white phosphorus.”
