Slovenia’s parliament on Tuesday approved the recognition of an independent Palestinian state, rejecting a proposal to call a referendum. Slovenian lawmakers voted with 52 in favor and zero against recognition in the 90-seat parliament
Slovenian Prime Minister, Robert Golub, last Thursday, announced that his country decided to recognize Palestine as an independent and sovereign state on the 1967 borders in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
Slovenia’s decision came days after Spain, Norway and Ireland recognized the state of Palestine, a move which was condemned by Israel.
Spain and Ireland, members of the European Union, along with Norway, have also officially recognized Palestinian in state, aiming to advance towards peace in the Middle East, according to the three countries.
