55 fishermen returned to the fishing port in Hodeida yesterday evening, days after they were kidnapped and tortured in the prisons of the Eritrean authorities.

The returning fishermen explained that maritime patrols belonging to the Eritrean authorities kidnapped them while they were fishing on board five boats, in Yemeni maritime waters, and took them to its prisons.

They reported that the Eritrean navy, after using torture and ill-treatment against them, returned them on only one boat and confiscated the other boats, fishing gear and some of their belongings.

In a statement, the General Authority for Fisheries expressed its strong condemnation of the increasing frequency of kidnappings and violations to which Yemeni fishermen are continuously, whether by the Eritrean authorities or the US-Saudi aggression coalition.

It called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to consider the grievances of Yemeni fishermen and condemn all violations against them.
