The Yemeni Foreign Minister, Engineer Hisham Sharaf Abdullah, addressed statements made by US President Joe Biden and reports about efforts by some countries in the region and elsewhere to sign security agreements with major powers for their safety.

“The efforts of some countries in the region and beyond to secure a security agreement with major powers, as stated by US President Joe Biden, highlight the importance of considering collective security for all regional countries, particularly the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Arabian Peninsula, before seeking security guarantees from superpowers,” Minister Sharaf emphasized in a press statement on Sunday.

He added that the national leadership in Sana’a understands the significance of collective security for regional countries and recognizing the true enemy, as well as unity in confronting it. He noted that the Yemeni people are inherently civilized and peace-loving, as Sayyed Abdulmalik Al-Houthi has repeatedly affirmed in his speeches.

The Foreign Minister highlighted that “when the Yemeni people face aggression and siege, they are capable of defending themselves and supporting the Palestinian cause, which remains central to the Arab and Islamic world and all freedom-loving people globally.”

Minister Sharaf urged neighboring countries to trust Yemen’s commitment to lasting peace for its peoples and systems. He advised against tying confidence-building measures and addressing urgent humanitarian and economic issues to establishing bilateral relations based on non-interference in internal affairs and mutual benefits, stating, “This is what ensures the security and safety of the region’s countries, apart from the illusion of protection by major powers, allowing each neighboring country to pursue its future projects and aspirations.”

In concluding his remarks, Hisham Sharaf affirmed, “A stable and prosperous Yemen fulfills the aspirations of its people and poses no threat to any party. Instead, it serves as a security and stability factor for all regional countries, as Yemen is an integral and indivisible part of the Gulf region and the Arabian Peninsula, capable of collaborating with all regional countries to achieve collective security.”
