The Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, renewed his call for a ceasefire in Gaza after nine months of severe conflict.

Lazzarini stated via the “X” platform on Sunday that “the longer this war goes on, the deeper the rift will become, & the more suffering people will endure.”

He called for independent investigations to ascertain the facts and identify those responsible for attacks on UN premises sheltering 2,000 displaced people in Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

He added, “Since the war began, nine months ago today, more than half (or 190) of UNRWA facilities have been hit, some multiple times, some directly.  As a result, 520 people were killed and nearly 1,600 were injured while seeking some safety. Too many were women and children.”

On Saturday, 16 Palestinians, mostly children and women, were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting a school sheltering displaced people in Nuseirat, central Gaza.
