Tribes in Abyan province, southern Yemen, gave the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) ‘s militia in Aden an additional period of one week to reveal the fate of their member, Lieutenant Colonel Ali Ashal Al-Jaadani, kidnapped and forcibly hidden since mid-June.
The Abyan tribes demanded that the STC arrest the perpetrators in the Ashal case and bring them from outside Yemen, threatening to block roads in the Abyan districts, in addition to other escalation steps.
The threat of the Abyan tribes came after an attempt to thwart the “Ashal million-man demonstration” yesterday, Saturday, at the parade ground in the Khor Maksar area in Aden, as a result of which two people were killed, five were wounded, and a number of participants were kidnapped.
The STC factions, coming from Dhalea and Yafea areas, detained hundreds of people from Abyan and Shabwa provinces at Al-Alam and Doufs points, east of Aden, to limit their participation in the mass demonstration demanding to reveal the fate of Ashal and others forcibly disappeared in the UAE-backed forces’ prisons in southern and eastern Yemen.
