Hodeidah Governor to “Al-Thawra Net”: 35 people died or went missing, and residents of more than 500 homes were displaced

Hodeidah Governorate witnessed heavy rains and floods in some areas, causing significant damage to infrastructure, homes, agricultural lands and roads.

The executive and security agencies in the governorate raised the maximum level of readiness after the directorates of “Al-Tuhayta, Al-Qanawis, Zabid, Bayt Al-Faqih, Al-Zaidiyah, Bajil, Al-Qati’a and Al-Marawa’a” and others witnessed heavy rains to confront any emergencies that may result from the bad weather conditions and protect residents and property.

Full coordination and cooperation was also carried out between all service and vital sectors in the governorate.

The governor of Hodeidah, Major General Mohammed Ayash Qahim, confirmed in a statement to “Al-Thawra Net” that all executive and service agencies concerned with continuous follow-up of the condition of the various streets in order to deal with any emergency cases, as the committee is assessing the damage and receiving all citizens’ complaints.

He pointed out that there are emergency and rescue teams that have been deployed throughout the areas affected by the rain floods and that coordination is taking place with the relevant authorities to closely follow up on the situation. He pointed out that some homes were damaged and surrounded as a result of the floods that the governorate witnessed.

Qahim explained that the available statistics indicated the death of 30 cases, 5 missing persons, and the displacement of residents of more than 500 homes due to the change in the course of many valleys as a result of the floods in Hodeidah, in addition to the demolition of a large number of homes and the sweeping away of 7 cars.

Noting that the leadership of the local authority is in continuous contact with the presidential committee assigned by President Al-Mashat to deliver aid and tents to the affected families.

He confirmed that the governorate is working with all its efforts to deal with these emergency circumstances, and that the situation is currently being evaluated around the clock to ensure the safety of citizens and reduce damage to the minimum possible.
