A Hebrew newspaper stated that the ongoing battle in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden highlights the erosion of American maritime dominance in the region. It noted that Washington’s failure to stop Yemeni operations supporting Gaza sends a global message that the United States is deterred.
In a report published on Sunday, the Jerusalem Post mentioned that sending more US naval vessels to the region “will not do much to address the broader strategic necessity: restoring American dominance in the sea lanes.”
Over nearly a year, it added, the US position in the region has “weakened” due to its failure to create a strong enough response to deter the “Houthis”, referring to the inability to halt Yemeni operations supporting Gaza. This has allowed for the erosion of American influence in a region where naval superiority is paramount.
For decades, “the Navy has been a cornerstone of American power,” but recent events, particularly concerning the confrontation with the Yemeni Armed Forces in the Red Sea, have highlighted a “disturbing reality: the erosion of American maritime dominance in the region.”
The report noted that the US has been unable to elevate its response to “decisive and sustained military action.” This sends a message that the US is being deterred, undermining its credibility and weakening its ability to defend its interests and allies.
The confrontation in the Red Sea creates uncertainty among regional allies such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
This is not the first time that media and officials from the Zionist entity have expressed disappointment with the US’s failure to stop Yemeni operations supporting Gaza, whether in terms of missile strikes on occupied territories or targeting ships connected to the enemy.
The executive director of the occupied Umm al-Rashrash port has frequently stated that the US-British alliance “could not do anything to end the Yemeni naval blockade, which has caused the port’s bankruptcy and complete closure since last November.”
Yemenis have declared their open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7 after the territory’s Palestinian resistance movements carried out a surprise retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, against the occupying entity.
The Yemeni forces have carried out scores of operations in support of the war-hit Gazans, striking targets throughout the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to targeting Israeli ships or vessels heading towards ports in the occupied territories.
The Yemeni Armed Forces have said that they won’t stop their attacks until unrelenting Israeli ground and aerial offensives in Gaza end.
The Tel Aviv regime has so far killed at least 39,623 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 91,469 others, according to the Gaza-based health ministry.
The occupying entity has also imposed a “complete siege” on the territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.
