An American magazine has acknowledged that the Yemeni Armed Forces succeeded in targeting US Navy warships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden with missiles and drones. The National Interest reported that the US warship USS Gravely was targeted by suicide drones and ballistic missiles late last year.
The report also highlighted the high cost to the US Navy of using interceptor missiles against low-cost drones. The article pointed out weaknesses in the defenses of US warships, noting that laser defense systems are only effective up to a range of one mile. However, the missile from Yemen that targeted the Gravely was within one mile and seconds from impact.
Members of the US Congress and former Pentagon military officials have stated that the Red Sea battle is draining tens of billions of dollars without any success in stopping Yemeni operations in support of Gaza, causing frustration among lawmakers, according to the magazine.
Last weekend, Politico published a report confirming that “what has been happening in the Red Sea for nearly a year contradicts President Joe Biden’s claim that the United States is not at war anywhere in the world.” The report stated that US forces have fired around 800 missiles and carried out seven rounds of airstrikes since November against Yemen, making this the most sustained military campaign since 2019.
The National Interest’s acknowledgment of the Yemeni Armed Forces’ attack on the destroyer USS Gravely came late, as the Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e, announced on January 31, 2024, that their naval forces had launched appropriate naval missiles at the US destroyer USS Gravely in the Red Sea, hitting it accurately and directly.
Three days ago, the Yemeni Armed Forces announced the execution of significant military operations in which they successfully targeted two US destroyers in the Red Sea.
Since Yemen entered the Al-Aqsa Storm battle in support of Gaza and imposed a blockade on Zionist navigation through Arab seas, the Yemeni Armed Forces have conducted dozens of operations against enemy ships violating the blockade.
After the US and Britain’s aggression against Yemen and their entry into the war to support the Zionist enemy, the Yemeni Armed Forces have added the warships of these two nations to their target list. Between November 19, 2023, and August 7, 2024, 101 American ships, destroyers, and frigates, including the US aircraft carrier Eisenhower, as well as 12 British ships and destroyers, have been targeted. Additionally, 41 ships owned by the temporary Zionist enemy entity and 45 ships owned by companies violating Yemen’s blockade on Zionist ports have also been targeted.
