The International Court of Justice (ICJ), said that Chile has asked ICJ to allow it to join the genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel due to its war on Gaza.

The ICJ stated in a statement on Friday, that it had received Chile’s request to join the case under the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The IJC noted that Chile’s request was made because it wishes to present its views on the interpretation of the relevant provisions of the convention related to this case.

In its request, Chile emphasized the importance of the interpretation of key articles within the Genocide Convention.

Both South Africa and Israel have been invited by the ICJ to submit written observations in response to Chile’s request.

Chile has become the eighth country to announce its participation in the genocide case concerning Gaza, following Nicaragua, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Palestine, Spain, and Turkey.
