At least five people were killed and two others injured in armed clashes in the Merkhah Al Ulya district of Shabwa Governorate, which has been experiencing security instability since early 2016.
According to informed sources in the governorate, clashes erupted between the Al-Muhiqan and Al-Qurai tribes in Merkhah Al Ulya on Friday, leaving five dead and two wounded.
The clashes were ascribed to the ongoing activities of UAE-funded factions that have been exacerbating tribal conflicts. These factions are reportedly supporting and financing certain tribes with money and weapons against others, thereby increasing their influence in different regions.
