PM meets with ICRC head in Yemen

Prime Minister Ahmed Al-Rahwi on Monday met with Mr. Juerg Montani, the newly appointed head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Yemen.

The meeting, attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Jamal Amer, focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas, including the ICRC’s efforts in relief and shelter for flood-affected regions and the rehabilitation of prisons.

The discussion also covered the ICRC’s humanitarian role in facilitating prisoner exchanges with mercenaries and Saudi-led aggression countries, emphasizing the need to strengthen the committee’s involvement in this process.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Al-Rahwi expressed his appreciation for the ICRC’s humanitarian work and highlighted the strong relationship between the Yemeni government and the committee.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to transparent and effective cooperation based on humanitarian priorities and the country’s real needs.

He expressed hope that Mr. Montani’s tenure would mark the beginning of a new, productive phase in their humanitarian efforts.

Mr. Montani outlined the committee’s ongoing activities, including emergency response, resilience building, livelihood support, and health sector contributions.

He reaffirmed the ICRC’s commitment to neutrality, respect for local customs and traditions, and transparency in all its operations.
