Associated Press published satellite images showing the complete destruction of the Israeli Nevatim base, which houses F-35 aircraft, following the Iranian missile attack.
The Iranian ballistic missile attack in Israel on October 1 targeted the Nevatim Air Base, among other major targets in the country.
The facility hosts both squadrons of the Israeli Air Force’s fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets, and was previously scheduled to host a third squadron of the fighters after their delivery.
The attack on the Nevatim Air Base came as part of a second wave of attacks on Israel, in which 200 hypersonic Fatah missiles were fired.
Iranian state media said the missiles hit the Nevatim, Hatrim and Tel Nof air bases, as well as Israeli tanks in Netzarim – a reference to an Israeli military corridor in central Gaza – and gas facilities in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon.
Nevatim Air Base, also known as Air Base 28, is an Israeli Air Force base located 15 km east-southeast of Beersheba, near Moshav Nevatim in the Negev Desert. It is one of the largest air bases in Israel and has three runways of varying lengths.
